Expert Inspections Now Required
Canada's national racking standard was updated in 2024. Annual expert inspections are now mandatory, not just recommended. Inspections must be conducted by a qualified person with engineering knowledge and result in a written report with structured damage classifications.
Per Violation, On the Spot
Ontario's Administrative Monetary Penalties launched in January 2026. Ministry inspectors can issue fines immediately, no court process required. Multiple violations in a single inspection are possible, and each carries its own penalty.
Before You Go Live
Ontario and National Building Codes now classify racking as a structural system. Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews, prepared by a Professional Engineer, are mandatory before any new or modified system goes into service. Commissioning timelines have changed accordingly.
